Travelling to Indonesia with Prescribed Medication
If you are travelling to Indonesia and you are bringing medication with you, there should be no problem at the customs if it is clear that the medicine is for personal use.
If your medicine does not contain any Opium ingredient, you are required to bring a clear official printed letter signed by your doctor containing professional identity information of your doctor and the patient concerned and information about the medicines as detail as possible, its intended use and duration that match with the quantity of medicines you are about to pack. It is advisable to have the letter in English. A prescription may be use as an additional document.
It is prohibited to bring narcotics into the Country. If you are bringing medicines containing any opium ingredients, herewith the steps to bring medication to Indonesia:
- You are required to bring a clear official printed letter signed by your doctor with the detail as provided in the aforementioned statement.
- The letter from the physician has to get a “stamp” from the CAK and legalized at the Consular Service Center (Consulairediensten Centrum) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken) in The Hague.
- It is best to store the medicines in its original bottle/packaging that is labelled properly by your doctor/pharmacist.
- When possible, bring the medicine in your carry-on bag.
- Upon arriving in Airport Customs in Indonesia, you must declare the medicines by filling out a form titled Custom Declaration Form (download sample here) and expected to fill out Notification of Drug and Food Administration Through Passenger Luiggage for Personal Purpose Form (download sample here).
